Demetris Mathaiou
Short Biography
Mr. Demetris Mathaiou was born in Nicosia on 16/03/1993. He graduated from Palouriotissa High School and then served his military service. His dedication to justice and law has guided his professional journey through various experiences that have helped him become a strong advocate for my clients.
Currently, he serves as a Lawyer and Legal Advisor in Cyprus, providing legal expertise and representation to his clients. This role allows him to utilize his in-depth legal knowledge to navigate complex legal issues and achieve the best possible outcomes.
His commitment to upholding the law extends beyond the courtroom. Since September 2023, he has held the position of Criminal Investigator at the Independent Authority for Investigations and Complaints against the Police in Cyprus. This role has provided invaluable experience in conducting thorough investigations. Additionally, Mr. Mathaiou is an External Associate of Members of Parliament, providing services such as drafting Law Proposals, Legislative Studies, Participation in Parliamentary Committees, Preparation of texts, and speeches.
In his legal practice, he has honed my analytical and research skills as a Lawyer in a private law firm. This experience instilled a strong understanding of the practical application of legal principles in various situations.
Mr. Mathaiou was the advisor tasked with handling the Cypriot part of the Courts & Conservation project funded by the Swedish Research Council Formas. The project aimed to document and understood judicial differences as a conservation tool in the European Union, collecting all national administrative and civil cases related to the direct protection of wildlife species.
Furthermore, his experience as a Policeman in the Cyprus Police equipped him with a firsthand view of the legal system and the importance of law enforcement, thus acquiring the necessary knowledge for better representation in criminal cases.
His academic background is based on a strong education. He holds a law degree from the University of Nicosia and subsequently successfully passed all 10 subjects of the Bar Examinations on his first attempt. This achievement demonstrates his dedication to excellence and his deep understanding of legal principles. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Cyprus.
His proficiency in the English language allows him to effectively communicate with clients both in Cyprus and abroad.
Beyond his legal experience, he is a strong advocate for social good. He actively participates in various initiatives promoting diversity, inclusion, and environmental protection. Notably, he represented Cyprus at the Renew Youth Academy in Brussels and contributed to the inclusion of positions in the Renew4Youth Manifesto on these important issues.
His commitment to social justice extends to volunteering, a core value in his life. He believes that active contribution to improving society is necessary. He focuses primarily on youth issues, ensuring a brighter future for the next generation.
In his spare time, he shares his legal knowledge and perspectives through articles published in local newspapers and online platforms. These articles examine various socio-political and legal issues, offering possible solutions and encouraging informed discussions on critical issues.
