Soteriou & Mathaiou Law Office was established on 18 January 2024 by Stavros Soteriou and Demetris Matheou, two lawyers who share a vision of creating a modern, reliable and people-focused law firm, built on integrity, professionalism and trust.
Co-founder
Stavros Soteriou is co-founder of Soteriou & Mathaiou Law Office. A graduate of the School of Law at the University of Nicosia and holder of a Master’s degree (MSc) in Economics & Business Law from Democritus University of Thrace, he is also certified in Arbitration by the Cyprus Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Beyond private practice, Mr. Soteriou serves as an active Criminal Investigator for the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Allegations and Complaints against the Police (IAIACAP), where he conducts interviews, gathers evidence, and prepares findings that uphold accountability and due process. He also sits on the judicial body of the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation, adjudicating disciplinary matters with impartiality and care.

Co-founder
Demetris Mathaiou is co-founder of Soteriou & Mathaiou Law Office, holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nicosia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Cyprus, including an Erasmus+ exchange in Sofia, Bulgaria. He passed all ten subjects of the Cyprus Bar Examinations on his first attempt.
Mr. Mathaiou brings a distinctive perspective to his legal practice, having previously served as a Police Officer with the Cyprus Police, Patrol Department of Old Nicosia, before qualifying as a lawyer. He currently serves as an active Criminal Investigator for the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Allegations and Complaints against the Police (IAIACAP), and has acted as legal consultant on an international research project with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, examining Cypriot court cases relating to the protection of wildlife species.

Partner
Andreas Christoforou was born in Ammochostos in 1962. He is a graduate of Acropolis High School and holds a Law Degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, from which he graduated in 1985. He was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association on 17 January 1987, marking the beginning of a distinguished legal career.

In 1988, he joined the Ministry of Labour as a Public Prosecutor for matters concerning the Department of Labour Inspection, and in 1990 he was appointed to the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus, where he served for more than three decades.
